Why Tata NANO Car FAILED?

Many people think that the Nano did not sell because it was called the “cheapest” car. This is not true. Nano had good response and did well till year 2012 after which sales dropped.

Nano is an unique vehicle. Nano has features that other vehicles can never… have. Nano is the most fuel efficient petrol or CNG car in the world. It is tough and sturdy. Its high ground clearance helps a lot on rough and unpaved roads. Its shortest turning radius among all cars is legendary.

What do you think could have been its other drawbacks?

Some other factors might have been that its competitors were scared of loosing market share and might have aided the “Nano can catch fire campaign”.

The Singur fiasco cost Tata around 200 to 400 crores (cost and time delay) which might have contributed to drastically cutting corners, selection of its vendors and also its advertisement budget.

Final nail in the coffin seems to be the pricing of Tiago. Tatas have priced a very inferior version of the Tiago at Rs 320,000 which is below the price of the full option Nano (Rs 330,000).

Will Tiago kill the Tata Nano car?

Or Will Nano make a comeback with an electric version as Nano EV!

As of now (Nov 2022) Nano EV has not been launched and maybe it could be launched in year 2023 along with 2 other electric cars.

But what is clear is that… what Tata learned from Nano went into creating the Tiago…. What Tata learned from making the Tiago went into creating the Tigor.

So if you are planning to buy a small Tata car, make sure you buy nothing less than the Tigor.

It seems that Tigor is the final version of the PROJECT that started off as the Tata Nano Project.
