Kerala state electricity board (KSEB) authorities in Kochi have started measures to facilitate installation of solar panels as part of SOURA PROJECT.

Of the 6,000 applications received from… consumers for installing rooftop solar plants across the state, majority are from Kochi.

Now, KSEB authorities are going through the applications.

The Soura project of KSEB aims to generate 500MW electricity by installing rooftop panels atop the buildings owned by consumers across the state.

The project offers 3 schemes to the consumer:

1. KSEB will bear the cost of installation as well as maintenance of the plants. The scheme offers 10% of the total electricity produced to the consumer for free.
2. KSEB will bear the cost of installation and any quantity of electricity produced from the project can be drawn by the consumer at a fixed rate.
3. The Consumer will bear the cost of the project. Then, he/she will have the right to use the whole energy generated at his rooftop or can sell the energy completely or partially to KSEB.

KSEB is planning to entrust an independent agency with the installation of solar panels.

The board will also have to work out financial aspects involved with the project, including the rate for giving electricity to consumer as well as purchasing power from them.
