Is Bajaj Auto losing the 2-Wheeler Race? | Time to EXIT?

Bajaj Auto, one of India’s most iconic two-wheeler manufacturers, has long been a dominant force in the domestic market. However, recent trends suggest a mixed performance that raises questions about its competitive edge in the fast-evolving two-wheeler landscape.

2024-2025 (Breakdown of vehicles sold for Jan, Mar and Jun were not available)

versus (2023-2024):

2023-2024 (Breakdown of vehicles sold for Jan, Mar and May were not available)

(1. Figures are as available on RushLane website. 2. Breakdown of vehicles sold for some months were not available so they were omitted.)

Saaransh:

Total DOMESTIC sales of all Internal Combustion vehicles are down.

Total average sales of all vehicles are down.

  • Pulsar: OMG what a fall… 60k less… pulsars were sold in 2025… Bajaj Sold 11.47 Lakh Pulsars last year but could sell only 10.87 Lakh vehicles this year (2025). 60,000 is a huge number.
  • (Bajaj has just 3 big guns in its Armory… Pulsar, Platina and Chetak. Pulsar is the biggest draw of Bajaj selling about 10.87 Lakh vehicles… next is Platina selling about 3.64 Lakhs… finally Chetak with 2.30 Lakh sales… rest can be ignored as the numbers are too small to be even considered).
  • Now of the 3 guns… Chetak is facing production problems due to the Rare Earth Magnets issue created by China. Bajaj has warned that the “Champions” may have a Zero EV (Chetak) production month for August 2025.
  • CT: lost 21k sales…. fell from 67k to 46K
  • Platina: sales fell 3K… from 39k to 36K
  • Freedom: the CNG bike added 74k to the numbers. But sales fell after a few months, managing to reach 5 digits for just 2 mths.
Hardly 9,000 Dominar bikes were sold last year. (sales breakdown for Jan, March, Jun were not available).
  • Avenger & Dominar: The sales of both Avenger and Dominar are so low… around 15k Avengers and 9K Dominars were sold in 2025… it makes you wonder why they are being sold in the first place.
  • Chetak: – The last man standing… The only silver lining is the Chetak which has almost doubled its sales. 14% of Bajaj’s sales was of Chetak. But the sales of 28k achieved in Oct 2023 could be matched just twice in Sept 2024 and Oct 2024 (the festival season).
  • As far petrol 2-wheelers are concerned Bajaj has sold 84,000 fewer vehicles this year. The fall in the number of vehicles would have crossed 1Lakh had it not been for 2-3 months of good sales of Freedom bike… after that the sales of even Freedom bikes collapsed.
  • Wonder if the future looks quite bleak for Bajaj Auto as the EV race heats up?
  • The more EVs Bajaj sells… the more their own petrol vehicle sales are going to go down.

Domestic sales show RED… Chetak being the sole one in GREEN continuously.

Exports are growing because electric scooters are not popular in those countries… once Ola Electric reaches in those countries… the sales there could also fall.

Moreover international politics, Crude Oil prices, tarrifs and wars could change the scenario. Thus Exports can only be considered as a temporary solution.

Unless Bajaj Auto can reclaim its spot in the domestic market… can it claim to be as successful as before?
