EV Taxi before EV passenger cars?

India’s top automakers are steering away from polluting diesel models, but the real push towards cleaner electric vehicles is coming from the country’s cab aggregators.

Market leader Maruti Suzuki announced late last month that it will not sell any diesel vehicles from April next year, when the Bharat Stage VI emission standards kick in. The norms will make diesel models substantially more expensive. Tata Motors, the country’s fourth largest carmaker, too, has indicated that it’s planning to stop selling small diesel cars after the new standards are enforced.

But when it comes to replacing… Continue reading

10,000 CNG stations in next 10 years

India to have 10,000 CNG stations in next 10 years, on track to adapt cleaner fuels: Dharmendra Pradhan

Oil MinisterDharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said the country was on its way to construct more than 10,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in the coming decade. He was speaking at an event held by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

“CNG vehicles are cheaper and less polluting and for this reason, according to the road map created by the government, India will get 10,000 CNG stations in the coming 10 years from around 1,400 today. These numbers are not part of any announcement; the numbers are based on the commitments made by winning bidders under the 9th City Gas Distribution (CGD) round,” Pradhan said.

He added that the government had initiated…

Jersey/HF cows not good for India!

Indian Diary Farmer cutting the very branch he is sitting on

Jersey/HF cows are at their best where the average temperature of the state or province during the afternoon is below 25 degrees Centigrade. I said BELOW 25 for 90% of the time… not just for coldest month! In India the temperature in almost all states is much above that except for the month of February  This makes Jersey/HF unsustainable across almost all of India (except  the hill stations of India).

These poor small ear-ed animals have a huge difficulty dissipating heat. Ears are the cooling system of a cow’s body. Small ears hold more heat within the body. This is an advantage in snowing countries but… Continue reading

1 Lakh Biogas plants coming up in each State!!!

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has allocated to the States and Union Territories (UTs) an annual target of setting up one lakh (100,000) family size biogas plants (1 m3 to 6 m3 capacity) for the current year.

This will result in a likely saving of about 21,90,000 LPG cooking cylinders annually, besides providing biogas plant processed bio-manure to reduce and supplement use of chemical fertilizers, an official press release said.
There would be saving of about 10,000 tonnes of urea equivalent. The average envisaged saving of emissions through carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere would be about 4,50,000 tonnes and about 2,50,000 tonnes respectively, that would help in reducing the causes of climate change.
The MNRE is implementing a National Biogas and Manure Management Progamme (NBMMP) for setting up family type biogas plants in the country. The objective of the scheme is to provide clean gaseous fuel for cooking and organic bio-manure as a by-product in the form of biogas plant left over slurry, which contains higher values of Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
NBMMP also helps in mitigating drudgery of women in rural and semi-urban areas by saving in their time both in collection of firewood, making cattle dung cakes and cooking.
A biogas plant will facilitate in achieving sanitary in villages by linking sanitary toilets with cattle dung based biogas plants and the slurry bio-manure can be applied for crop production in solid, liquid or dried form.

Now CNG-Scooter with 120kms range!

  • The Indian govt. has started a pilot programme for running CNG scooters
  • 50 Honda Activa scooters have been retrofitted with CNG kits
  • The CNG powered scooters have been given to Domino’s pizza delivery boys

In a concrete step to curb pollution, the Indian government has launched a first-of-its-kind Pilot Programme in the country that will see…

Storm of events catapulting Indian EV Industry to top

A storm of events is catapulting the lethargic Electric Vehicle Industry in India to the forefront of the Automobile Sector in the World.

What do we take from Auto Expo 2016 – Delhi

With Delhi pollution control discussion in the background the Auto Expo 2016 at Delhi happened at a very opportune moment as far as Electric Vehicles were concerned. It was the right moment when the people were aware of the effects of pollution and how badly Delhi is affected by it.

Diesel car manufacturing companies complain that their car takes in polluted air and leave out cleaner exhaust doesn’t hold much water as after a few years with age and neglected maintenance diesel vehicles will give out more harmful exhaust than petrol. The fact is Diesel is as thick as Crude Oil and is always going to be a dangerous fuel for the lungs.

Auto Rickshaws have moved on to CNG and Electric Rickshaws in Delhi and the next bunch of vehicles  to be converted would be the school buses, mini-buses and the regular Buses and then finally the Trucks.

The enlightened Delhi saw more than six lakh footfalls at the Expo.

The best part was that this was one of the AutoExpo having the record number of Electric Vehicles on Display in India. It had everything from scooters, sports bike, auto rickshaws, cars, sports cars, mini-vans and bus… it had the complete package.

It could have had more vehicles like electric Trikes, Electric ATVs, Quads/buggies & Electric Tractors. But what makes the Expo all the more exciting is the promise of what could come next year because it was just late 2015 that the Paris Pledge was taken to do away with Petrol and Diesel as fuel and to retain CNG and Electric as the fuel of the future.

Auto Expo 2017 will surely have more electric vehicles like Ather Energy, and Hero Motorcorp. The 110cc Navi bike from its look it is evident that it is purely designed with battery in the mind as the source of fuel.

But the biggest hope is that there will be at least a few startup companies that will out smart existing Vehicle makers like Tata and Mahindra and have better vehicles on display… and there is a very good chance of this happening.

Good News for Gas Producers

Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) on Wednesday rose as much as 16.5%, its sharpest gain in three years, after the Supreme Court of India ruled that Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) cannot set IGL’s network tariffs.

The Supreme Court ruled that the regulator has no power to set retail gas price, according to Bloomberg report.
