Mahindra E2O V/s Renault Twizy V/s Renault Zoe V/s Nissan Leaf – Comparison

Now that the Mahindra E2O has gone to UK… its time to review the car against its younger brothers… the Twizy, Zoe and Leaf.

Younger brothers because the Mahindra E2O is Version 2.0 of the Chetan Maini’s Reva Car called G-Wiz in UK. The first generation of G-Wiz was an awesome car back then… and offered something no car maker ever dared 20yrs ago!!! To make an electric car… and then export it to 23 countries.

It was an era when Tesla as a company was not even born. A car so light which could be pushed by a 5th grade student. The Lead Acid battery in the 1st generation car could last as long as 5 YEARS!!!  The lead Acid battery longevity is unparalleled even today !!! The Version 1 of E2O called Reva Car had also traveled 3,500 kms cross country through 15 Cities in India in the year 2009.

In the process to find an investor/car maker Chetan lost 10 precious years… 5yrs in his chase to find a car maker who could maker bigger investment and take it forward… and another 5yrs to get the car manufactured and released. This was the time when the Indian economy was opening up and there was threat that the US car makers would come and capture the entire market. This never happened… just like iPhone US cars could never become a favorite of Indians.

But after loosing 10 precious years the version 2 is out and we would stick our neck out and say Reva2 (E2O) is almost…almost on par with the Best Electric Car in the business… The Nissan LEAF.

Nissan has taken great care to pack the Leaf with a lot of goodies… which made the Leaf cost (£27,230) almost twice as expensive as E2O (£15,995). But then it is no mean task for Mahindra E2O to come out 2nd Best Car !… read on to find out… Continue reading

What do we take from Auto Expo 2016 – Delhi

With Delhi pollution control discussion in the background the Auto Expo 2016 at Delhi happened at a very opportune moment as far as Electric Vehicles were concerned. It was the right moment when the people were aware of the effects of pollution and how badly Delhi is affected by it.

Diesel car manufacturing companies complain that their car takes in polluted air and leave out cleaner exhaust doesn’t hold much water as after a few years with age and neglected maintenance diesel vehicles will give out more harmful exhaust than petrol. The fact is Diesel is as thick as Crude Oil and is always going to be a dangerous fuel for the lungs.

Auto Rickshaws have moved on to CNG and Electric Rickshaws in Delhi and the next bunch of vehicles  to be converted would be the school buses, mini-buses and the regular Buses and then finally the Trucks.

The enlightened Delhi saw more than six lakh footfalls at the Expo.

The best part was that this was one of the AutoExpo having the record number of Electric Vehicles on Display in India. It had everything from scooters, sports bike, auto rickshaws, cars, sports cars, mini-vans and bus… it had the complete package.

It could have had more vehicles like electric Trikes, Electric ATVs, Quads/buggies & Electric Tractors. But what makes the Expo all the more exciting is the promise of what could come next year because it was just late 2015 that the Paris Pledge was taken to do away with Petrol and Diesel as fuel and to retain CNG and Electric as the fuel of the future.

Auto Expo 2017 will surely have more electric vehicles like Ather Energy, and Hero Motorcorp. The 110cc Navi bike from its look it is evident that it is purely designed with battery in the mind as the source of fuel.

But the biggest hope is that there will be at least a few startup companies that will out smart existing Vehicle makers like Tata and Mahindra and have better vehicles on display… and there is a very good chance of this happening.

The Shitty Goodness Drive of Mahindra

Recently Mahindra carried out the “Goodness Drive” a 5,000 Km drive unforgettable journey supposedly “never carried out in India”… except for

  1. Unknown to Mahindra such a drive had been carried out 6yrs earlier in 2009 known as “Climate Solution Road Tour“when the car was known as a 2-seater Reva and traveled 3,500 kms to 15 Indian Cities. Now this was at a  time when the Internet in India was more slower than fast, social media was just about getting noticed, people were not yet familiar with the word “viral”and US regularly used to top the list of Internet users in the world. Not any more things have changed a lot and that required an update.
  2. An updated version of the original idea with 4seat E2O drive was proposed on January 2014 as a 2,500km-in-16-days by PlugInIndia‘s which also had Bradley Berman’s PlugInCars in the team for international exposure…
  3. Mahindra never replied to the proposal…. Then one fine day in Nov 2015 those involved  get an electric “charge” to find the same plan renamed, reproduced as “Goodness Drive”… Continue reading

Who Killed The Indian Electric Car-E2O?..

In an era when India is trying to battle the environment pollution and jump onto the clean energy bandwagon it may come to you as a surprise PlugInCaroo announcing that Mahindra could be on a mission to do away with India’s one & only electric vehicle. It is as much of India’s pride as is Tata Nano because E20 was and is the most economically practical & sustainable electric car in the whole wide World.

Who Killed The E2O - the Indian Electric Car... the answer could be... AN INDIAN!

Who Killed The E2O – the Indian Electric Car?… the answer could be… who else but AN INDIAN!

Why we are saying this is because our voice could be the last desperate & feeble voice in the wilderness before life could be snuffed out of E2O… just like the mother Indrani Mukerjea who smothered the life out of her daughter Sheena Bora in the sensational murder case.. there is a possibility that Mahindra is trying to kill E2O. Right now E2O is lying in ICCU counting the days…

For instance how much advertisement do you see on for E2O?… now compare it with… Continue reading

E2O vs Nano GenX (AMT)vs Alto

E2O takes on the Nano GenX  (AMT) vs Alto and barely scrapes through to survive and tell the tale. Nano comes out shining second while Alto gets some respect from the defeat due to its mammoth 35ltr tank!

E2O vs rest

E2O vs rest – Cost of traveling 1,000 Km on E2O is just Rs 500 which makes it Rs 0.50 per km while Nano CNG is close behind with Rs 1.20 the rest are well over Rs 2.50.

Maxximo Electric – Van, School Bus & Truck

The year 2014 is coming to and end and pretty soon the Electric variant of the Mahindra Maxximo Van, School Bus and Truck is expected to make its entry. It’s been too long in the waiting and I was expecting it to be released around Diwali 2014. Do note that the Diesel variant had already been running around since 2010 but now I expect it to, finally, make landfall within the next 6 months…bole tho…by December 2014 or maximum by March 2015.
