The Center is likely to put in place liberal norms for setting up charging stations to power electric vehicles.
While the NDA government plans to have an all-electric fleet on the country’s roads by 2030, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission is working on setting up norms for charging stations.
According to the proposal, those setting up… charging stations for private use need not get licenses from the regulatory authorities. But commercial charging stations may be required to obtain permission.
We at PlugInCaroo ask:
Why ANY permission is required for a Commercial “charger” other than using a commercial electric-meter? Especially if you are expecting each individual to make an investment of around 10 lakhs for top of the line chargers?
It is ok to apply for govt permission… IF AND ONLY IF… electricity to charge the car COMMERCIALLY is used from the grid. Make it hard or double hard for them so that they will be compelled to implement clean energy (Solar/Wind/Biogas) rather than suck out energy from the Grid.
If private individuals are installing Solar/Wind/BioGas (5 to 10 Lakhs) systems to generate electricity… and then also install quick chargers (another 5 to 10 lakhs) then such individuals/companies have to be given 10yr tax holiday and there is no need for extra-rules, new-rules govt-control or permissions.
The best way is to keep it regulation free… as is the case with Cable TVs.
Such regulation-free charging-industry will encourage investment from individuals/companies and it will reduce the charging-infrastructure burden on the Government.
Such a regulation-free will be like Uber-isation of the EV-charging industry. It will cause disruption without destruction. Where the investment for the charging infrastructure can be made by the common man and the profits can be shared by either:
- Govt & Owner
- Electricity Supplier & Owner
- Owner (if it is off-grid)
