Come 09 Feb 2018 and the biggest Automobile exhibition at Greater Noida in the history of India will be thrown open to the public.
This is an Expo that you have to see to believe. An Expo… that you have lived to see so that many years down you could tell your kids that you were there when India caught up with Electric vehicles and did not miss the EV Revolution bus…
The revolution of electric vehicle industry will turn India completely for the good. A lot of credit if not ALL of it has to go to Mr Nitin Gadkari for nudging, pushing, shoving and even threatening the Indian Automobile (Industry which was always least bothered in developing EVs) to get EVs done.
This expo will be the first time that such a number of new Indian companies will be launching their products in India. Most of the auto shows are used by international automakers to show case electric concept vehicles which might never be built or taken seriously even within the company. But this expo will mark the electric vehicles that will be put up for sale.
In Electric bikes there are Emflux motors, Flow Scooter, Ather Energy, Tork Motorcycles, Okinawa Praise, Blacksmith Motocycle, Ultraviolette Motorcycle, showcasing their vehicles. Most of these companies were started just 3 to4 years ago. And there are no international 2-wheeler worth their salt who can take on these local companies. The most exciting of them all are Emflux motors and Ultraviolette! (Check out the bikes at the autoexpo here)
In electric Cars Tata Motors and Mahindra have finally agreed to at least produce an EV variant of each vehicle especially SUVs. They have plans to showcase 6 new EVs, Maruti Suzuki which had been preferring hybrid rather than pure EV has finally agreed to produce electric vehicles. Maruti will be showcasing their concept “E-Survivor”. It is a quirky SUV and builds upon the success of the Jimny and Vitara. Ashok Leyland will be showcasing their electric buses.
Brand Ambassadors of various Motor brands Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and actor Akshay Kumar among others, are expected to grace the Expo
A variety of factors have come together to push Indian Electric vehicle manufacturing ahead of much of its competitors:
- USA, Europe, Japan & South Korea failing to produce an economical E-car.
- Big car makers refusing to let go of Diesel and refusal to switch to pure electric vehicles.
- Suzuki and Toyota banking on hybrid vehicles to bail them out.
- Chetan Maini creating the most economical Electric car in the world at a time when Tesla was not even created as a company and nobody even believed in EVs.
- Road & Transport Minister Mr Nitin Gadkari who took up upon himself to get the Indian automobile industry converted from petrol vehicles to electric vehicles.
- The Climate-Change group putting pressure on pollution reduction worldwide.
- The Paris pledge to stop using petrol & coal after 2025.
Year 2018 will be the year of Electric Vehicles.
