Ola believes that… electrification can improve outcomes for drivers, customers, and its business model. This has been proven by their pilot project in Nagpur. The EV program in Nagpur provided Ola with significant insights into effectively managing vehicles, batteries, and operations. The company plans to continue its experimentation with ways to optimize batteries and charging, to develop a strong business model for EV deployment in the country.

The company will work with driver-partners, cities, vehicle manufacturers, and battery companies to make sustainable technologies cost-effective and viable in daily mobility.

Ola is also talking to OEM partners and EV innovators globally to bring vehicles on the road in a planned and phased manner. With the addition of 10,000 vehicles across three cities, Ola is quickly set to become one of the largest EV fleet operators in the world.

Electric vehicle (EV) market has the potential to grow significantly in the coming years as sales are expected to witness high double-digit growth rates annually in India till 2020, noted a recent study.

“Stricter emission norms, reducing battery prices and increasing consumer awareness are driving EV adoption in India, while Vs are not yet mainstream, government push and other indications point to a growing momentum,” stated the study titled, ‘Electric mobility in India: Leveraging collaboration and nascency,’ jointly conducted by Assocham and global advisory services firm Ernst and Young (EY).

Currently, EV industry is at a nascent stage in India, comprising less than one percent of total vehicle sales and is dominated by two-wheelers (95 percent).
