Organic farming is very easy to do.
The 12 Main points of ORGANIC FARMING ARE:
A) IT IS VERY EASY FOR INDIAN FARMERS TO COME OUT OF POVERTY.
B) FIRST THING ALL FARMERS NEED TO DO IS TO HARVEST RAINWATER.
C) CHECK THE GROUND FOR EARTHWORMS & DUNGBEETLE:
D) USE JIVA-MITRA.
E) USE TRADITIONAL (HEIRLOOM) SEEDS:
F) STOP DEPENDENCE ON CASH CROPS GROW MORE FOOD CROPS
G) WHY DO WE NEED MONEY?
H) HOW TO EARN MONEY?
I) USE OF CHEMICAL FFERTILISER & PESTICIDES ALSO RESULTS IN FLOODING:
J) USE BIO-GAS
K) USE AT LEAST 1KW TO 3KW BATTERY LESS SOLAR PANELS
L) USE OF FREE RANGE BIRDS & ANIMALS ON THE FARM
If they refuse to use these 12 points as explained in detail below… then farming will become impossible for them over time.
A) It is very easy for Indian farmers to come out of poverty. The problem is they are farming in the way the BRITISH taught them to farm. It is easy for India but not for other countries. Because India is blessed by Hot & Humid weather which is good for agriculture & a big population without which you cannot sell.
B) First thing ALL farmers need to do is to harvest RAINWATER. SAVE every SINGLE drop. Every farm has a borewell. Put 4 bamboo around a borewell and make a big plastic roof… as big as possible. When rain falls send it all to the borewell. A farm that has borewell means THAT farm is dying… water is its OXYGEN… without this NOTHING can grow.
In ONE monsoon he will get enough water under his ground to do farming. His ground well will become full. If not this year then definitely next year for sure. But in 1 yr he will be able to see a vast difference.
WATER IS MONEY… where there is water there is money… where there is NO WATER there is NO MONEY.
C) CHECK THE GROUND FOR EARTHWORMS & DungBeetle: Most farms today have very little earthworms. Every handful of soil should have at least 1 earthworm if not 5. There is a great chance that you must have seen earthworms & dung beetle as a kid but today you will not see them on a farm. Lack of earthworms are because of use of fertilisers & pesticides.
DungBeetle is a bigger version of earthworms. It digs holes in the soil & takes dung there. Meaning it cleans up the cowdung fallen on the ground and takes it underground. What a wonderful machine!!!
The only way to bring them back is to use FRESH COWDUNG & FRESH URINE.
Get in touch with some cow owners & try to get them to graze on the farm for at least 12 hrs. The fresh dung & urine will attract these earthworms & dungbeetle.
D) USE JIVA-MITRA. Mix (CCC+JSAW)… Cowdung, CowUrine, Curd, Jaggery, soil, basin-Atta & water. How much to mix?…any amount will do… use as you please… Keep covered & in shade for 15 days. Put in farm every 15 days. Don’t finish full keep 10% & add the above & reuse.
How many times to spray… any amount will do… but it has to fall on the ground for the bacteria to grow on the ground. Doing it more will be a waste of time. So best is to do it 2 times a month (every 15 days).
Use of Desi Cow is a must in this. All brown cows are not desi. There are 11 features of a Desi Cows … search on YouTube “11 features of a good Indian Cow”. Each cow should have at least 3 to 4 of these features.
E) USE TRADITIONAL (HEIRLOOM) SEEDS: The farmers do not know that they are being fooled by Hi-Tech companies who fool them by giving them “controlled-seeds”. These seeds bought from ABC company will need to use fertilisers from ABC company and also pesticide from ABC company. If they use ABC seeds with DEF fertilisers & XYZ Pesticide company the crop will fail.
On the other hand Traditional seeds have survived over thousands of years and have developed natural resistance to almost all kinds of diseases.
These controlled seeds are expensive. Today to farm 1 acre they need Approx:
- SEED Rs 10,000
- Fertiliser Rs 30,000
- Pesticides Rs 30,000
- Diesel Rs 10,000
- Labour Rs 30,000
- Transportation to market (mandi/APMC) Rs 10,000
TOTAL = Rs 120,000 (Now If he sells this in the market he will get Rs 125,000 or EVEN LESS).
Under Chemical farming the farmer will get PROFIT of only Rs 5,000/acre.
If he does organic farming he will get PROFIT of Rs 80,000/acre. The expenses in red can be avoided in organic farming & rainwater harvesting.
F) STOP DEPENDENCE ON CASH CROPS GROW MORE FOOD CROPS.
This cash crop craze started with East India company forcing our farmers to grow Cotton, Rubber, Tea, Indigo etc on a VERY large scale. Initially many farmers protested but slowly faded. Indigo Revolt in 1859 of India is quite famous.
Even today after independence we are following the very same policies. Our govt under British & today ONLY supports the Industrialists. EVERY SINGLE subsidy is FOR the benefit Industrialists & NOT for the FARMER. Whether it is for machiner, drip irrigation, greenhouse or polyhouse farming, hydroponic fodder, Milking Machines or Fertiliser or even the subsidy for Li-Ion battery for electric vehicle… the TaxPayer’s money goes in the pocket of the Industralists. Because they are the people advicing the government.
Why there is no subsidy for Lead Acid Scooter or for Slow Speed Scooter? Because our Industrialists Bajaj, TVS, etc have decided NOT to make slow speed electric scooter. If they make THEN there will be subsidy for slow speed scooters.
Now the Government gives more cash here than in food crops to lure the farmers. With Globalisation the farmers are exposed because:
i) Imports are cheaper. Private companies will buy cheaper imported goods.
ii) Govt cannot match the imported price so farmers will not get a good price. This situation will become WORSE as our GDP grows. Because under WTO India will have to do compulsory import of 5% of our GDP. As GDP grows our imports will also have to grow. Move out of Cash Crops ASAP.
Today sugarcane companies don’t pay farmers on time & have a pending of 3 months. If Sugarcane companies want sugarcane then they will have to pay ADVANCE to farmers to grow it & EVEN INSURE IT. If the crop is lost the COMPANIEs must run around the banks for compensation. These things will happen ONLY if we STOP growing CASH CROPS.
We need to replace our SUGAR eating habits by shifting to Gud. It is not difficult I have done it. Occasionally its ok to eat sugar when outside or in restaurant as it is unavoidable but at least inside our house we can avoid it. Slowly even outside this disease of eating sugar will slowly come down.
Plantation agriculture destroys the land because it sucks the MAXIMUM nutrients from the ground. Many people think without growing cash-crop survival is not possible. This is because we have become dependent upon MONEY. We have to try to become INDEPENDENT from the MONEY. We will answer the question in the next topic “Why do we need money?”
Ideally in one acre of land you can grow 1,000 trees ONLY if you follow these rules:
i) Not more than 10 trees of one kind. Meaning you can have 100 kinds of trees & 10 of each kind.
ii) Mango tree should not have a mango tree next to it at least for 2 more trees in every direction. Meaning the next mango tree should be out of visual range (say if you are sitting on the tree). This is true for every single tree.
ii) Never mono crop. If you are growing any crop make sure at least not to pluck the grass.
iii) Never expose the soil to the sun. It will become sterile & dead. This is what ploughing does.
iv) Avoid ploughing the land. If you do make sure to cover it with paper or cardboard to save it from the sun.
v) Grow ONLY those Trees the leaves of which COW eats. So you are indirectly growing their fodder.
vi) Grow Clumping Bamboo along the fence. There are 2 types of bamboo Clumping & Running. Running Bamboo is uncontrollable and can spoil the growth of other plants. It is almost like a weed. Test it out in a pot before you grow it on the soil. It is a must and one of the first plants to be grown. It grows the fastest and can be very useful for helping in building structures on the farm.
Indirectly the worth of 1 tree is as much as 1 Alto Car or 3Lakhs. Therefore 1,000 trees = 3,000Lakhs = 30Crore. If you grow 1,000 trees till it fruits… it means you have a rainforest growing on the farm and it will survive on its own… without your help in future.
G) WHY DO WE NEED MONEY?
i) Kids Education – But cannot we educate them better ourselves by homeschooling? & get them to write the CBSE exams? YES we can. Modern education in private schools is taking away a lot of wealth and creating a lot of undue pressure on the parents of the students.
Today a lot of the knowledge and better content is available on youTube.
A lot of the teachers teaching in EVERY SINGLE school have very poor knowledge about Maths & Science and they themselves have been very poor students. It is very unfortunate that well educated parents like Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, Pilots, Software Developers, Scientists, Architects, Consultants, Researchers have no time to teach their kids but find it better to send them to be taught by a person lower qualified than them. Then is it any wonder that their kids become dumber than them?
ii) Healthcare – Of course for some things like broken bones or accidental-burn injury we might need medical care but for keeping healthy & free from infection & diseases like cancer, diabeties & hypertension can be possible by living a healthy lifestyle and eating clean organic food. Because even for modern science they have NO CURE for these other than take lifelong medicines which then increase their complications.
iii) Building a House – We can easily build a earth house bigger and better than the best houses built by a builder in the city. We can have 24hrs Air conditioning with ZERO bill with Solar Power. We can have 24hrs fresh clorine free naturally healthy water to drink… that too in unlimited supply unlike the 1,000lts per day supplied by Municipality.
The cost of a 1,000Sqft earth house can be below Rs 5Lakhs for a normal house and below Rs10 Lakhs for a very beautiful house. Such a house would cost Rs 50 Lakhs & Rs 1Cr in the City.
Once we accomplish this our need for money will reduce drastically. The net worth or the addition of just the above 3 will put an Organic Farmer’s Net worth above Rs 1 to 10 Crores.
H) HOW TO EARN MONEY?
Of course money is also required in life and on a farm money can be easily earned.
i) Use Social Media, Sell on eCommerce & build Website
- Use social media to find new customers & connect with the existing ones.
- Posts updates what is growing and what is harvested and what is available, just by doing this and monetizing content will earn you well.
- Create website to sell products online.
- Sell products also via Amazon & Flipkart, etc
ii) Learn the art of Preservation & Value Addition
What doesn’t sell give 10% to your staff & 90% feed to the cows. Everyday 10% is a lot of goods for your staff too. That is why we should not have only SINGLE crop so that the cow will get a variety of food.
- Milk the cow once a day and let it free range with calf for the whole day.
- Don’t sell milk. Sell ghee. Compress 20ltrs of milk into 1 kg ghee. This will reduce energy use, reduce storage area, reduce storage utensil, last very, very long & Increase income.
- Preserve food in different ways like murraba, jams, pickles, ghee, sun-dry items etc.
iii) Organic Farming Courses
Many people do not believe that this method can make money. Many also do not know how to do it. So for them they can visit the farm stay a few days, work on the farm & learn.
iv) HomeStay/Agri-Tourism (Rs 2,000 per head per night)
- People can come to the farm to unwind, see the nature upclose, eat healthy & breathe clean air.
- Make a few 3 to 5 mud houses with all plumbing & all facilities for them to stay.
- The produce on the farm can be converted to the food for these tourists.
- There should be activities like pedal cars, electric rickshaws, rowing, solar boats, river-crossing on rope, Bow & Arrow, shooting practice, Artificial rock climbing, tree house, BBQ, hammocks, natural swimming ponds, swimming pools for kids with pool toys, fishing with a professional fishing rod. camping in tent (for less fee like Rs 500/night), banana boat ride, etc. Each of this activity can have a very low fee of Rs 50-100 per head because the cost will be very low.
- Pick Up & Drop from nearest station/airport can be another source of Income (at Uber/Ola Rates) if required.
v) Invest in Stock Market.
Every year invest at least Rs 10,000 to 1 Lakh in Indian Stock Market by buying stocks of the top 10 companies of India. It is very common knowledge that the best companies multiply money very fast and 1Lakh becomes 10Lakhs with in 10 yrs due to price movement & issue of bonus shares. Regular Dividend payment is also a small attraction.
I) USE OF CHEMICAL FFERTILISER & PESTICIDES ALSO RESULTS IN FLOODING:
When it rains due to the lack of earthworms & dungbeetle the water flows OVER the earth flooding it. The water stays stagnant and is prevented from going down due to lack of holes in the ground. Most of the time the water flows into the drains and is carried into the nearby river or into the nearby sea. Along with it the water takes tons of top soil. You can see this very clearly as the water will be very muddy in colour. This is the top soil being lost. This soil settles in the river beds making it more shallow for next year.
All this happens because these chemicals kill insects that make holes in the earth which take rainwater below the surface of the earth into underground water tanks. There are 3 kinds of natural water tanks:
- First one is very shallow within 4 to 5 feet.
- Second one is below 10 feet. This water is soft water.
- The third one is below 100 feet and is hard water.
There is no problem using soft or hardwater. Hardwater has a lot of iron content and can change the taste of some food in cooking & react with soap while bathing leaving rough hair on our head. Other than that it is ok.
Today when it rains the first 2 tanks which are very small get full but dry out within 3 months after the last rain. Almost no rainwater reaches the deeper third tank while we take out a huge amount of water from this tank with boreholes. Today it is very common all over India to have no water in borehole even up to depths of 1,000 ft.
J) USE BIO-GAS: This is literally free energy from agriculture waste, human & animal dung. If you let it out in the environment it will rot. Put it in a biogas digester then it will give good manure and BioGas to be used in cooking, powering gensets or water pumps or even running CNG cars.
K) USE AT LEAST 3KW BATTERY-LESS SOLAR PANELS Most farms have unpredictable electricity from the government. Also there is a regular payment which have to be paid. 1Kw system is very low cost. 1kW is very small and good only for a 1bhk house use it is recommended that on a farm it must have at least 3kW power plant. Including battery will increase the cost of the system and its yearly maintenance. Over a period of time it is better to have another 3kW system that is completely off grid & not connected to the grid at all.
Without this it will not be possible to provide modern amenities in the courses or classrooms and even for the tourists.
Lack of electricity will also reduce the efficiency and the utility of the machinery & labor.
L) USE OF FREE RANGE BIRDS & ANIMALS ON THE FARM
This is because each bird or animal has been built as a machine for a specific task. It has a role to play in your farm. It is your job to find out its potential and put it to good use. Like chickens are good at pest control. Herbivore are good at managing the quality of vegetation on the land. Even insects are vegetarian & non-vegetarian. The vegetarian insects feed on the plants and they need to be controlled with non-vegetarian insects or birds.
