Ola the market leader in App based ride hailing in India is increasing the stakes! The company has taken up the cause of the country to put in place a million Electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2021.
In a major push for EVs NITI Aayog has proposed to do away with all permits for Electric Vehicles. NITI Aayog suggest Electric vehicles are largely environment-friendly and thus should be promoted more actively by the government. This if implemented would be a major positive move in India since the independence of the country.

Never understood the fact why people make small EVs that can never charge itself and have to depend on the grid to charge itself… in a country where 60% of the population don’t have access to 24×7 electricity. Then say these things are not selling!
Or consider if there is war or emergency and the grid is down… how will millions of the then (year 2050) existing electric vehicles recharge?
On the other hand making the vehicle bigger can allow the vehicle to carry solar panels on the roof to charge itself and also protect the driver, battery and passengers in case of a crash. Bigger the vehicle safer it is in a crash. Always in a crash… the bigger vehicle wins!

Toyota Motor Corporation, the world’s biggest automaker and Suzuki Motor Corporation, parent company of Maruti Suzuki concluded a memorandum of understanding to develop electric vehicles (EV) in India in around 2020.
Suzuki will make the EVs, and supply some to Toyota, while Toyota will provide technical support. The Center is likely to put in place liberal norms for setting up charging stations to power electric vehicles.
While the NDA government plans to have an all-electric fleet on the country’s roads by 2030, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission is working on setting up norms for charging stations.
