SERVe: Solar Car by Indian Students

 

It all started when a team of 5 students came together with a dream – to built a solar car that can run on the bountiful sunshine in the country, writes Manu A B.

“The overall project has cost close to Rs 25,00,000. But this is not the cost of the vehicle as it includes everything from printing a flyer to procuring steel for the chassis. It includes a customs duty, transportation costs, and also estimates the value of in-kind sponsorship from supporters such as Tata Power Solar, who provided us with the Solar Module,” points out Anudeep Reddy.In a bid to build innovative and green solutions to ease India’s traffic woes, a group of students from Manipal Institute of Technology. The students built a prototype of a solar electric car, which can hit a speed of up to 60 kmph.

It all started when a team of 5 students came together with a dream – to built a solar car that can run on the bountiful sunshine in the country.

Tata Power Solar supported the Solar Mobil Manipal with sponsorship, besides designing and manufacturing solar panels.

We have compared the vehicle against 25 parameters and the Nano has come out on top in 10 of them while i10 and WagonR come out on top in just 4 each. This is a vast difference… this shows that Nano is one excellent and useful car. Do also note that the cost of the i10 is about two times the cost of a Nano. We have compared only the top variant of each car as we feel if one has to buy a car you must as well want to use the best feature it has to offer else settle for an auto rickshaw. After all a car you buy is for your and your family’s comfort!
