People prefer familiar corruption over unfamiliar progress…

Well done AAP for getting 20 seats in Punjab even though people preferred corrupt govt over honest governance.

We have been ruled for over 200 yrs by corrupt government and their corrupt laws (like the Indian Forrest Act, Indian Land Acquisition Act, Taxation laws… why even Tax on salt exists). So we are really afraid how a honest government will function. Some of my educated friends have said only a corrupt government can rule India “properly” and we know which party they voted for.

What was the good performance for which the party got their votes? Whether it is the BJP or Congress where ever it won. Or was there something that was more “important” than the performance of the government that was voted in?

This was exactly the same attitude during the Bitish rule and true today. There were many Indians who preferred the British rule and the rule of Aurangazeb. There were many Indians who preferred to see their king defeated against an Invader. It might seem shocking today… but that is exactly how the Mohammed Gori, British & Aurangazeb were able to capitalize and defeat superior local army. They were able to capitalize on a few corrupt people.

The questions of progress are never asked… it is so well brought out in Swades

Petrol cars have Zero resale value

Petrol cars bought today (May 2016)onwards may have Zero resale value… Since the value of a car is calculated over an approximate 10 year period of ownership the 10 yrs that will follow year 2016 will be tumultuous years in the automobile industry…. the winds of change are already starting to blow..and it will take not a stretch of imagination to visualize electric vehicles all over the LAND, SEA and AIR!

General Motors had unveiled the concept Chevrolet FNR electric self-driving car at the 2015 Auto Shanghai show in Shanghai, China

When Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal banned Diesel cars there was a big furore. But now countries are taking steps to completely ban both Diesel AND Petrol vehicles. This is not surprising but it is in line with the Paris Pledge where the countries have pledge to wipe such engines (Coal, Diesel & Petrol) off the face of the planet. Countries like France and UK have been on it since  a few years.

The Labour Party of Netherlands has proposed banning the sale of all internal-combustion cars by 2025. That means only cars powered by electric or hydrogen will be allowed to join existing fleet of petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the existing petrol and diesel fleet go beyond its permissible road life duration, those cars can only be replaced by ‘green’ cars, according to the proposal. In 2014, the country built the world’s first solar-lit road and received praise from all over.

So by that account in 10 yrs time when we reach the year 2026 and you try to sell off your 2016 model car there will be no takers! Thus every single petrol or diesel car you buy today onwards will have zero resale value in 10 years time!!! Only way out is to buy Electric Cars!

How Hero Electric turned a Hero

During the Odd and Even formula tried out by AAP in Delhi not many electric vehicle companies were able to utilize the opportunity to show case their vehicles but Hero Electric company was able to use the wind under its wings and fly high.

Hero Electric was able to visualize the commuter’s problem and the opportunity it presented for the company to familiarize the vehicle with the common people  was seized with both hands. This can be considered one of the best marketing campaigns carried out in the last few decade in India.

What Hero Electric did was this:

Hero Electric  deployed around 100 E-bikes in 15 strategic locations in Delhi and gave free rides to commuters Delhi during the “Odd-Even Drive”. Not only did they invest equipment but they employed “staff/volunteers” to drive the scooters.

This initiative, christened ‘Free and Clean Ride‘ by Hero Electric, was aimed at raising awareness about E-Mobility and mitigating bad air quality in Delhi. The initiative was flagged off by Mr. Satyendra Kumar Jain, Minister of Health and Industry, Delhi and Mr. Sohinder Gill, CEO Hero Electric today from the Delhi Secretariat.

Each location had 5-10 E-bikes with a rider who helped each commuters reach last mile destinations from public places such as metro stations or a busy bus terminal for no charge. The E-bikes were stationed at these locations during the rush hour i.e. 8 AM – 12 PM & 4 PM to 8PM and the riders wore distinctive uniforms, so the commuters could easily identify them. Some of the key locations were metro exit points in Connaught Place, Kendriya Terminal, Jawaharlal Nehru Metro Station, Anand Vihar, Preet Vihar, Rohini etc

The whole idea was to help office goers and general commuters to experience the joy & comfort of zero polluting Electric bikes and also get to learn the advantages of switching over to Electric Mobility.

Since this plan worked and as there was sufficient demand for its services, one can expect the company to deploy a bigger fleet size next time.According to the company’s official statement, two wheelers are contributing the maximum to air pollution in Delhi & E bikes are a visible alternative to immediately cut the emission, considering the fact that 1 electric bike reduces 1 tonnes of CO2 in 3 years, also quite a lot of money and absolutely no maintenance or service.

An electric bike is like… buy it, charge it, forget it… no headache!

Kejriwal’s Odd-Even Formula

Kejriwal’s Odd-Even Formula & having the guts to ban Diesel Vehicles could push India to lead the Automobile world out of the fossil fuel era. It seems like one small step in that direction… but in fact is a huge gigantic leap for MANKIND.

All of us are aware that the Odd Even Formula is temporary, kind of a stop gap,  “puncture repair” till the time the real issue can be addressed properly… he is able to source enough extra Buses… (around 10,000 extra buses) probably powered by CNG. If he is able to get even half of that then the number of Delhi’s public buses would double. This in itself would provide enough relief for the daily commuters. This will improve the overall impact of… Continue reading
