The Ather brownout

After the investment by Hero Motors in Ather Energy what is very obvious is that there is a certain communication link that seems to have been cut… that they have managed to choke Tarun & Swapnil… their voices have almost been shut out… the way business was done seems to have changed somewhat…

There have been changes both inside and outside. Looks like production might not start even by mid 2018… Continue reading

Mahindra E2O Plus – Review

The world is moving towards banning Petrol & Diesel for all vehicles by the year 2025. The use of Electric vehicles are becoming more real than ever before. India has 2 good electric cars in E2O & E2O Plus. The cost of travelling in these cars are as cheap as travelling by a motocycle. Since this car does not use Petrol or Diesel (which are very expensive and harmful fuel)… you can save as much as Rupees 1 Lakh a year on fuel cost…especially if you drive a total distance of 100kms.

The maths is very simple… to recharge this “E2O Plus” P8-version car you will need just Rs 100 and you get 140km range. Most people travel within this range.

140kms with a petrol car will… Continue reading

Trump aiming to hit Indian Automobiles hard!

Donald Trump talked about many great things he has planned for America in his address to congress. There he had talked about “some countries” taxing American Harley Davidson motorcycles 100% Tax and called it unfair. Well that country was none other than India. He wants taxing in other countries to be fair…

Really? Mahindra has being trying to sell their vehicles in USA but still has not been successful to even get entry Tata had to buy the British Jaguar Land Rover brand to even qualify to sell “popcorn” in US and yet Nano has still not been allowed into US based on continuously increasing standards aimed to keep the Nano out… so much for talks about “being fair”. Same also for Indian pharmaceutical, garments & agricultural produce getting banned for vague reasons.  People who live in glass houses should not throw stones on others!!!

It is also time… Continue reading

Maruti pulls out of International EV Consortium

After Ford, Maruti too pulls out of International Consortium for EVs called xEV. This consortium created about 1 year ago consisted of Industry leaders like Tata-Mahindra-Maruti-Suzuki-Toyota-Ford.

What is interesting to note is that more than Toyota & Ford it is the Indian companies Tata & Mahindra who have developed and showcased and even sold Electric cars. (Actually if not for the stupid Cyrus “Mystery” even Tata Nano EV would have been on the streets by now because they had showcased the car around the same time as Reva NXR aka E2O.

Toyota & Suzuki wanted most of the … Continue reading

Mahindra E2O V/s Renault Twizy V/s Renault Zoe V/s Nissan Leaf – Comparison

Now that the Mahindra E2O has gone to UK… its time to review the car against its younger brothers… the Twizy, Zoe and Leaf.

Younger brothers because the Mahindra E2O is Version 2.0 of the Chetan Maini’s Reva Car called G-Wiz in UK. The first generation of G-Wiz was an awesome car back then… and offered something no car maker ever dared 20yrs ago!!! To make an electric car… and then export it to 23 countries.

It was an era when Tesla as a company was not even born. A car so light which could be pushed by a 5th grade student. The Lead Acid battery in the 1st generation car could last as long as 5 YEARS!!!  The lead Acid battery longevity is unparalleled even today !!! The Version 1 of E2O called Reva Car had also traveled 3,500 kms cross country through 15 Cities in India in the year 2009.

In the process to find an investor/car maker Chetan lost 10 precious years… 5yrs in his chase to find a car maker who could maker bigger investment and take it forward… and another 5yrs to get the car manufactured and released. This was the time when the Indian economy was opening up and there was threat that the US car makers would come and capture the entire market. This never happened… just like iPhone US cars could never become a favorite of Indians.

But after loosing 10 precious years the version 2 is out and we would stick our neck out and say Reva2 (E2O) is almost…almost on par with the Best Electric Car in the business… The Nissan LEAF.

Nissan has taken great care to pack the Leaf with a lot of goodies… which made the Leaf cost (£27,230) almost twice as expensive as E2O (£15,995). But then it is no mean task for Mahindra E2O to come out 2nd Best Car !… read on to find out… Continue reading
