Many people have some misunderstanding about Ola Electric… mostly the confusion have been created by journalists and Chartered Accountants having no proper information or knowledge about technology.
Cannot blame them because its first time they have to measure a company like Ola Electric which is a leader in what it does… and they are unable to find any other company to measure Ola Electric against.
So many times they GENUINLY think Ola Electric is BOASTING and cannot achieve its goals… because they think a 20GWh battery plant is too huge… every other company is aiming for half that capacity.
Ola’s actual goal is 100GWh… which when announced these media could not believe… but they also see Chinese companies are having 300 GWh to 1,000 GWh capacity…today they say Ola has to compete with Chinese Giants… how can Ola compete.. so if the goal is big… then also problem… if it is small then also problem for the media.
So on one side they see this huge Chinese companies and on othe other side they see a complete vaccum in India with Reliance quiting Cell Manufacturing and willnonly assemble it… JSW still not getting battery technology partners.
While Exide and Amara Raja struggling to even start manufacturing production scale cells… This leaves only Ola Electric as a major player in Cell Manufactturing in India… this is a strange paradox for them to swallow.
Till now they had Tata… Bata… Reliance selling them stuff… so is a little difficult for them to digest the fact that India lacks genuine manufacturing and India till now has basically been a screwdriver assembly Country basically assembling everything after getting “technology partnership” … basically slaves to western masters.
So its difficult for them to ACCEPT the REALITY that Ola Electric is the sole leader… and has left others FAR… FAR behind.
1. There is no failed NMC tech… nor has Ola SHIFTED to LFP
There seems to be some SERIOUS misunderstanding about Battery Tech by JOURNOS and CAs with limited knowledge of Ola Electric or Battery tech… ot BOTH.
Ola will use BOTH NMC & LFP… NMC is for fast vehicles and drones… optimises power and weight… LFP is for cheaper and lower speed vehicles. This is due to the charasteristic of the chemistry… NOTHING ELSE.
2. Ola plant was closed for 3 mths for upgradation to Bigger DIAMETER LFP CELL… thats why output of Roadster and Shakti were almost non existant… these will start from Sept.
So how can they say Shakti FLOPPED when LFP Shakti was not released? The few NMC Shakti sold were more like testing the waters.
Currently most 2BHK houses use Rs 30,000 power back up systems… these are in 1kWh Range.
Ola has not yet ADDRESSED THAT MARKET… Olas 1.5kWh PORTABLE SHAKTI has not yet launched... this will be the home powerbackup REPLACEMENTS.
SHAKTI is basically a LFP solution… when LFP batteries will start production IN SEPT 2026… how can you ASSESS THEIR SALE PERFORMANCE in Aug 2026???…😂😂😂
3. Ola will charge Dealership fees of Rs 40 Lakh per shop... size of shop = 1,000 SqFt… approx 1,000 shops will be selected over 1 yr… bringing in min 400 Crs. this yr.
Ola is offering them BETTER profit per vehicle (Rs 11,000 to Rs 30,000) based on the vehicle.
…this Dealership Fee is much lesser Fee than what established companies charge.
This 400cr capital infusion will reduce a lot of Ola’s capital crunch problem.
4. Dealerships can easily double sales… from existing 16,000 units per mth to above 30,000.. and in off season monsoon sales… from 12,000 to 24,000.
Dealers will take interest to sell more as their income is based on sales ONLY.
5. Govt of Singapore today COMPLETELY EXITED the OVER BLOATED Ather Energy … and Hero MotorCorp was forced to buy the shares… else selling it in open market would have plunged the stock… the media covered the news as if it was a very positive development… when it was a negative news for Ather… media is always extra nice to ICE companies… and NASTY to Ola.
6. As far as Cell Manufacturing is concerned China makes it at Rs 6… Ola at Rs 9… Exide will make at 10 and Amara Raja will make at 12.
Reliance has exited and will only assemble… JSW cannot find Technology partners... Exide and Amara Raja have very high costs… and these 2 companies dont manufacture vehicles to use these cels… WHY eScooter companies will use their EXPENSIVE CELLS… they ONLY buy from cheaper VENDORS.
So Exide and Amara Raja is caught in a Catch22 Situation… they are not sure… they will be able to sell the Cells …. but they will have to invest heavily without a gurantee of either making cell cheaper or even selling… niw they are thinking of manufacturing eSooters and EVs… another big Investment…. and unsure business with razor thin profits.
Ola scaling is expected to bring Cell Price down to Rs 6 in 2027 itself… Ola will consume EVERY CELL THEY MAKE … even if the cost of cell is slightly higher the difference will be minimal comsidering Transportation cost…better quality… better implementation… better charging… zero tarrif or Duties… no fear of supply chain cuts, etc.
Thus only Ola Electric has the correct combination to master this CELL TECHNOLOGY.
7. The CELLS are tested maximum… to their limits… in e2Wheelers… mostly parked in hot sun… with NMC chemistry… WITHOUT ACTIVE COOLING... Ola Shakti for Homes will not require the huge WORKLOAD DEMAND that a 2Wheeler puts on a battery… like sudden acceleration.. sudden braking… quick charging at most times… compared to that the effort a battery puts in Shakti and MahaShakti is pretty LENIAR… or stable… steady etc… in MahaShakti it might even have AC cooling or Liquid cooling.
SHAKTI will also have much safer LFP Chemistry Cells.
So the DOUBT… “would Ola Cells perform as well in Shakti and MahaShakti?” … is not at all required.
The WORKLOAD on Ola Cells in Shakti and MahaShakti Ola… would be… at its lightest … it is at its highest in 2Wheelers.
8. Also Companies like Tata Power do not MANUFACTURE CELLS OR BESS battery… they get BESS MANUFACTURERS like Ola to manufacture it as per their design and capacity.
Ola stand to gain a GREAT ADVANTAGE of manufacturing their own Cells. Although Cell Cost of China is just Rs 6… you need to add price of Packing… Transportation… Time involved… Tarriffs Duties… and even SUPPLY cuts… because China can do anything.
9. “Still not supplied battery tobother companies” claims…How other companies will get cells? … when they just started cell manufacturing… and slowly scaling… just upgraded to LFP… the quantity of cells are not sufficient for Ola so how they will supply tonother companies?… its EXACTLY for this the SCALING TO 6GWh has been done.
Bhavish has hinted that Ola electric also would either demerge Ola Cell Technology as a new company or call for new IPO to expand from 6GWh to 20GWh. Tbis Demerger/IPO could happen in 2027.
PLS NOTE… cell manufacturing is not as easy as MAKING KULFI.
Big guys like Reliance have given up … that too after aquiring few Cell Manuacturing companies…
Established battery companies like Exide and Amara Raja are afraid nobody will want their cells as it will be more expensive than Chinese cells.
Cell Manufacturing… is one of the most DIFFICULT and capital intensive manufacturing process in modern industry.
It is a huge achievement for Ola Electric to reach at this level… and by end of this yr… Dec 2026… Ola will be come 100% Indian Bharat Cell user.
But Indian media and mentality will only blame Ola and try to make jokes about it… it did some design mistakes in the past and it corrected those mistakes in its vehicle and launching rectified versions… these are mistakes you cannot avoid in manufacturing… the vehicles were tested in smooth roads in factories… but not on pothole filled Indian roads… Tata launched Nano withbso many design mistakes … without AC… without a boot… single wiper in a country having areas which has the heaviest rainfall on earth… Tata did these mistakes in spite of making trucks for decades.
10.Now you will say… “Ola sales dropped in July-Aug” … well this happened due to VERY HEAVY MONSOON in India due to extreme EL NINO weather build up… after 12 Aug… Gatari… sales have gotten back on track… Aug had more than 1 mid week holiday and sale registrations usually fall to 350s on Holidays and Sat-Sun … while on normal days its above 500.
So whether you hate or love Ola Electric… it will keep growing.
