Electric 2Wheelers – Jan to May 2026

The Indian electric two-wheeler market has witnessed remarkable shifts in the first five months of 2026, with Ather Energy, Hero MotoCorp, and Ola Electric emerging as the key players. Their monthly sales data reveals not only the competitive intensity but also the evolving consumer preferences in the EV segment.

Ather Energy: The March Surge

Ather Energy began the year with steady sales of 17,545 units in January and 16,750 units in February, before experiencing a dramatic surge in March with 29,689 units — its highest monthly performance.

This spike, averaging nearly 958 units per day, reflects strong demand momentum, possibly driven by new product launches or seasonal promotions.

However, sales normalized in April and May (~22.5k units), suggesting that while Ather can achieve peaks, sustaining them remains a challenge.

Hero MotoCorp: Consistency with Recovery

Hero MotoCorp displayed a similar trajectory, starting with 13,365 units in January and dipping to its lowest in February at 12,608 units. March brought a significant rebound with 21,584 units, its best month, averaging 696 units per day. Although April saw a decline to 15,795 units, Hero recovered in May with 19,051 units, showing resilience and adaptability. This pattern highlights Hero’s ability to bounce back after downturns, maintaining a stable mid-tier presence in the EV market.

Ola Electric: From Struggles to Momentum

Ola Electric’s journey was the most dramatic. Starting with 7,534 units in January, sales fell sharply to 3,980 units in February, averaging only 142 units per day — the lowest among all three brands.

Yet, Ola staged an impressive comeback, climbing to 10,143 units in March, 12,211 units in April, and finally 15,139 units in May, its highest monthly figure. It had crossed 16,000 in October 2025.

This consistent upward trend underscores Ola’s growing consumer acceptance and effective market strategies, positioning it as a rising challenger.
