An Analysis of Ola Electric’s Battery Manufacturing Strategy in India
India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution is transitioning from the simple assembly of imported components to the domestic, foundational manufacturing of battery cells. At the epicenter of this shift is Ola Electric’s Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
By developing two distinct cell chemistries in-house—the 46100 Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cell and the 4680 Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) “Bharat Cell”—the company is executing a dual-pronged manufacturing strategy.

The Indian two-wheeler market is undergoing a profound transformation, reflected in Ola Electric’s robust sales figures. In April 2026, Ola sold 12,208 units, followed by 15,139 units in May, and 16,144 units in June, culminating in a quarterly total of 43,491 units. This steady month-on-month (MoM) growth underscores the accelerating adoption of electric mobility in India.
Ola Electric betters MoM 3rd time in a row
Ola Electric sold above 10,000 vehicles in March… 12,208 in April… and by 27the May has already sold 12,514 vehicles.
Thus Ola has bettered it’s sale… Month-on-Month (MoM) for the 3rd successive time.
This proves that Ola is a serious performer in the electric vehicles category.
Ola is on course to sell around 15,000 vehicles for the month of May 2026.

But in the process, we at PlugInCaroo are guessing that Ola appears to have quietly sidelined its Gig scooter, Z-Series scooter, and even the much-discussed electric autorickshaw… the smallCar? well that could be 3-5yrs down the line.
